LITURGY

A small group of people who are interested in the Church’s Liturgy, willing to learn and meet every 2nd month with the Priest and Deacon to prepare and discuss liturgical issues.

LITURGY CO-ORDINATION

…chairs the Liturgy committee, coordinates all the Liturgical Ministries trains new Ministers, and in consultation with the Priest, prepares the Priest’s books for special Liturgies.

COMMUNION AND VISITATION OF THE SICK
There are many sick parishioners, living in their own homes who are unable to get to Church. Communion and comfort is provided to the housebound or those in residential care.

EXTRAORDINARY COMMUNION MINISTERS

As the Ordinary Minister is the Priest or Deacon, extra lay parishioners are commissioned to distribute Holy Communion during Mass so that the Assembly can receive communion in an orderly and timely manner. Parishioners are invited to join this Ministry, are rostered on times that suit them and are provided with initial and ongoing formation and training.

SACRISTAN

The Sacristan’s role is to set up for Mass and coordinate the cleaning up/closing up after Mass. Volunteers are welcome to offer this service at the Mass that suits them and be placed on a roster. New sacristans are trained and supported in the role.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

The Word of God is proclaimed rather than just read, which involves the Minister reading the text in prayer and reflection beforehand, so that the Word is actively heard, rather than passively listened to by the Assembly. Training and resources are provided.

MASS COORDINATOR

Each Mass has a coordinator who ensures there are enough Ministers to cover the various roles, organizers collectors and people to take part in the Offertory Procession.

PRAY ERS OF THE FAI THFUL WRITER

…takes into account the readings of the day, the temporal circumstances of the local community and the world at large. The invitation to prayer, intercessions and the concluding prayer generally make use of some of the scriptural texts or images proclaimed during the Liturgy of the Word.

P R O J E C T I O N I S T

…prepare peoples’ responses, including hymns and gestures so these can be displayed, and project these during Mass in order to encourage the people towards  full and active participation in the Liturgy.

R O S T E R  M A N A G E R

Ministers nominate their availability and  a roster is prepared for Readers, Extra Ordinary Ministers of Communion, Coordinators, Sacristans and Welcomers 4-6 weeks in advance to ensure that each Mass has the appropriate number required. The roster manager can do this at home in their own time.

F L O W E R  A R R A N G E R S

Floral arrangements are one way of enhancing our worship space.   Volunteers can assist by joining the maintenance roster using the large selection of artificial flowers; offering extra help on special occasions; providing flowers or greenery from their own gardens or giving monetary assistance.

W E L C O M E R S

Welcomers seek to ensure that everybody who comes to celebrate Mass in our community feels welcome and are the first demonstration of our welcoming community for parishioners, visitors, newcomers and strangers. This welcome sets the tone  for the Celebration of the Eucharist as a community gathered together.

Contact Colin: 3870 9470.

R E F R E S H M E N T S  ( A F T E R  M A S S )

Sharing a cuppa is a wonderful opportunity to bring the Parish community together; offering refreshments after Mass is the perfect way of building/nurturing relationships, promoting love and friendship, and making everyone feel welcome.

B R A S S  C L E A N E R S

C H U R C H  C L E A N I N G

A L T A R  S O C I E T Y

Volunteers also help with the occasional cleaning of the altar cloths, washing and periodic mending of vestments and altar server albs, and the sewing of new altar linen when required.

Mission support in Flores and Timor Leste

Mission support in Flores and Timor Leste: Trevor and Tina Lambkin

Welcome to our two mission neighbours who we support: the peoples of Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores, and Saburai (near Maliana) in Timor Leste. We are members of the Indooroopilly Parish and have maintained this website since the birth of the Flores mission in 2010. This website is our personal journal dedicated to the brothers of the Missionaries of the Poor who established missions in Flores in 2010 and in Timor Leste in 2015. The website shows the towns of Labuan Bajo in Flores and Saburai in Timor Leste, and the mission brothers’ works in assisting the many impoverished people in this area of the globe. Holy Family Parish Indooroopilly has an active St Vincent de Paul Society Conference. In late 2014 the Holy Family and St Thomas Aquinas (St Lucia) conferences chose to amalgamate. We have 18 active members in the Conference.

The Society’s ethos is ‘a hand up, not a handout’ and inspiration comes from the words of its founder, Frederic Ozanam: “You must not be content with tiding the poor over the poverty crisis, you must study their condition and injustices with the aim of long term support and improvement”

The Conference is very active. For many years, our principal method of supporting people was in visiting them in their homes to provide both emotional and material support and this continues. The material support takes the form of food vouchers, providing furniture, clothing, and assistance with overdue bills – in winter time electricity bills are a major problem for some of our clients.

Over the last year, we initiated a new service of food parcels delivered weekly. Those clients, who are supported in this way, receive deliveries for a few weeks until they can get back on their feet.

Both Holy Family Parish and St Thomas Aquinas Parish, and parishioners, generously support the Conference. Holy Family has provided a room in the hall for use as a store room for our food delivery service. Both parishes provide space for us to hold our monthly meetings, provide collection points in the churches for donations from parishioners and the opportunity to run the annual winter and Christmas appeals to which parishioners have responded generously in the past. The Holy Family Primary School also provides a significant and substantial level of support in a range of ways.

On behalf of the Parish, this Conference made 287 visits during 2015/16 (involving 245 hours), provided $14,500 in financial support funded by parishioners’ donations and delivered food parcels values valued at $7,000. We also arranged for the provision of in kind support valued at $7,300. This was mainly furniture and clothing that have been donated to “Vinnies Stores” in the Western suburbs.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6.00 PM, alternating between the two parishes.
